Laundry by Hand
Doing laundry by hand is not difficult and does not take much time.

  1. It is a good workout to burn calorie without setting aside dedicated time for exercise.
  2. Laundry powder is saved because when dissolving the detergent, one can observe whether the solution is already soapy enough.
  3. There is no remnant of soap on the clothes that causes itchiness because the cleanliness of the clothes can be observed when rinsing.
  4. Items forgotten in the pocket can be detected without being destroyed by washing machine.
  5. Electricity is saved.
  6. Fend for ourselves. Everyone should wash his or her own clothes, including children.

  1. Take an overview of the clothes, especially ones with bright colour, for any stain. Brush the stain off. Put a bit of laundry powder on the stain if it cannot be brushed off easily. If no stain is seen, the brushing can be skipped.
  2. Rinse all clothes for one time before soaking in soap water.
  3. Put the clothes in the pail and add water just enough to cover the clothes.
  4. Use a teaspoon to scoop out soap powder to dissolve in the water in that pail. Add until the water gives soapy feeling when touched. After a few times of laundry, the number of teaspoons needed can be estimated.
  5. Soak the clothes in soap water for at least an hour. Such soaking prevents bad odour on the clothes. Do not overdo it by soaking overnight or else the odour may be even worse.
  6. After soaking, it is time for the major washing. This step can be done before taking a shower if desired, so that sprinkle of soap water on the body when doing the laundry is not a concern. Wring the clothes from the soap water. The soap water can be used to wash toilet bowl.
  7. Rinse the clothes in clean water and wring. Use a white pail if possible, so that the cleanliness of the clothes can be observed from the clarity of the water when rinsing. Pour the rinse water into another pail to keep for flushing the toilet or washing the bathroom floor.
  8. Repeat rinsing and wringing until the water is clear. Do not hesitate to use more water to rinse because the water will not be wasted anyway.
  9. Hang the clothes to dry.
Dirt is easier to wash away if it is still fresh. Wash the clothes on the day they are taken off. Do not accumulate. Availability of tap water and laundry powder already cut down the effort to wash clothes. Laundry by hand is a way to appreciate physical ability.
