Tithing Is Outdated

Christians should give offering, even it is just a small amount. However the amount should be spontaneous. Tithing is against freewill offering. Fixed percentage or amount must not be set by the church. Church members should be free to offer at any amount without subtle pressure at all (2 Corinthians 9:7).

Tithe is for the Old Testament. If someone wants to follow tithing, then he should also follow other ceremonial rules given to Israelites. Only charlatans will measure faith with the amount of offering. Jesus condemns people who tithe but omit righteousness (Matthew 23:23). Do not neglect our own family by giving more offering. Pastors should focus on teaching about holiness instead of offering. Under free will offering, we can even give very little if we see that the pastor does not live a monkish life.

Bible verse cited in this article
Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
